Information for Participants

A hard copy of the following information will be given to participants on their arrival at Hotel Druzba.

TELRI is pleased to welcome you at the Fourth TELRI Seminar. This sheet is intended to answer any organisational queries you may have. The TELRI conference office at the Hotel Druzba will be staffed Wednesday to Saturday from 09:00 until 18:00. Phone /fax number +421 7 65411650

Please refer to the TELRI noticeboard outside the Seminar room regularly (before each session) for any last-minutes changes in the programme. Please sign up for the excursions described below under "Events" on the board, as we need to know numbers.

Accommodation

Accommodation has already been booked for you and you should have been informed by email previous to your arrival. If in doubt, please ask at the seminar office.

Please note: ALL accomodation must be paid direct at the hotel by the conference participants personally. The accomodation expenses are to be paid out of your daily allowance (if received). TELRI accepts no liability for accomodation left unpaid.

Demonstrations

Some demonstrations are planned for Friday and Saturday during the breaks. Please see the TELRI notice-board for more details, and let the Seminar Office know if you would like to make an informal demonstration of your work too.

Equipment

There will be access to several computers (Windows with one internet connection and one laser printer) and a photocopier at the office. Please bear in mind that access and resources will be limited and you should prepare as much as possible in advance. The rooms are equipped with projectors, one beamer, an LCD tablet and flipcharts. Please ensure that the equipment you need is ready (and working) before your presentation and contact the TELRI Seminar desk if there are any problems.

Events

The following events are organised. For all except the optional excursion to Devin on Sunday, all participants will be the guests of TELRI (no costs). Please sign up on the TELRI notice-board for the events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday 3rd November 18:30 

Informal get-together in L. Stur Linguistics Institute, Panska 26 (no cost to participants).

Travel: From Druzba and Sorea by tram numbers 1, 4 and 12 in the direction of centre. Get off at stop called Novy most.

Thursday 4th November 12.00 

Reception in Miestodrzitelsky Palac (the Governor's Palace), Hlavne namestie 8 (no cost to participants).

Travel: Participants should make their own way to the Palace. From both from Druzba and Sorea, take tram 1, 4 or 12 in the direction of centre and to get off at NOVY MOST. Go from the tram stop "Novy most" (in the direction of St. Martin's Cathedral) to "Panska street" (passing square "Rybne namestie") and continue to the crossing "Rybarska brana", then turn to left and after several metres get to the main square "Hlavne namestie". Governor's Palace (No 8) is the building close by the French Embassy.

Friday 5th November evening

Dinner in Pezinok Castle Wine Restaurant. Buffet with chance to sit down and wine tasting in the Castle Restaurant. (no cost to participants).

Travel: coach pick-up 18:30 from Druzba, then Sorea at 18:45.

Saturday 6th November 19.30 

Dinner in Restaurant "Leberfinger", Embankment Park. (no cost to participants)

Travel: Participants should make their own way to the restaurant. From both from Druzba and Sorea, take tram No 1,4 or 12 in the direction of centre and to get off at NOVY MOST. The stops between Druzba and Novy most are called "Lafranconi", "PKO" (= the tram stop for the Sorea people ) and "Tunel". After getting off at NOVY MOST they will cross the bridge "Novy most" itself, turn to left and after ca. 300 m walking they will get to the Restaurant.

Sunday 7th November 

Excursion to Devin (picturesque ruins of the early medieval fortress, little archaological exhibition, guide). Excursion to Devin and lunch at "Rastislav?s". Lunch will cost around 150 SKK (DEM 7).

Travel: Departure as a group from bus stop "Novy most" (near the tram stop "Novy most") at 8.30.

Expenses Refunds

Those participants entitled to a refund of travel expenses and daily allowances (as arranged in advance with TELRI) may receive their refunds on location. Hermann Schmitt of the IDS will deal with all such queries. Travel costs can only be reimbursed for journeys by public transport or car (no taxis) with full receipts (originals where possible, copies where the originals are need for the return journey). Please copy these and hand them in to Herr Schmitt at the TELRI desk (there is a photocopier available on site). If full documentation is handed in by 11:00, payment can be picked up after 14:00 of the same day. The daily allowance received covers food and accomodation for the duration of the seminar. You are required to pay your accomodation out of this total ? TELRI will not pay it for you.

Internet Access

Internet access will be available on the seminar site. If necessary time-slots can be reserved to prevent problems with access.

Meals 

Lunch is available at the Hotel Druzba. It will be served in the canteen near the staircase leading to the conference rooms and will cost 150 SKK (DEM 7), to be paid by each participant. There are no other possibilities near the Hotel Druzba.

Seminar Office

The TELRI seminar office at the Hotel Druzba will be staffed Wednesday-Saturday from 09:00 until 18:00. There will be a TELRI representative and a local contact on hand to assist with any problems.

It is possible to hail them in the street if you see one, but there are more in the centre of town than there are near the Druzba. Please note that TELRI cannot normally refund taxi fares.

TELRI Association

Membership fees for the TELRI Association can be paid direct at the Seminar Office (this saves both bank transfer fees and trouble). A list of current members and their status (paid-up or not) will be available on location. The current fees are as follows:
  • CEE/NIS members: EUR 20 per annum / EUR 50 for three year?s membershp
  • All other members: EUR 50 per annum / EUR 120 for three year?s membershp

Transport within Bratislava

Individual tram tickets cost SK 10 and are available at the major points of arrival. Three-day passes will be available from the Seminar Office at low cost.

Any tram number (1, 4, 5, 9, 12) two stops in the direction of Centre. For the individual trams the right direction is

  • "Hlavna stanica" for 1
  • "Zlate piesky" for 4
  • "Komisarky" for 5
  • "Ruzinov" for 9 and 12.

Tram numbers 1, 4, 5, 9, 12. For the individual trams the right direction is:

  • "Dubravka" for 1, 5 and 12
  • "Karlova ves" for 4 and 9.
The venue of the Seminar is Hotel DRUZBA situated 10 minutes from the centre of the old town by tram. It is also accessible from all directions by car and bus (large parking area and also garages for rent).
